FLOATATION THERAPY

Let the world fade away and discover the art of floating, a revolutionary practice that allows you to let go .

HOW IT WORKS

Floatation therapy allows the body to absorb magnesium sulfate that most of us are deficient in. Magnesium sulfate calms the nervous system and allows for better blood flow - resulting in reduced cortisol levels and released endorphins. The weightlessness and quiet space provides the mind with deep relaxation suited for meditation.

Modern day living is stressful, demanding, and at times, overwhelming. Many people are overexposed to outside stimulation such as bright lights, loud sounds, marketing, advertising, and electromagnetic field's from digital devices. Being subjected to this stimuli for long periods of time can leave the mind in a constant state of stress and create physical health problems. Being in a float tank removes these external distractions. The body is able to enter into a deep state of relaxation and the mind can rest.

BENEFITS

Since floatation therapy works to calm the mind and body, it is an ideal practice for those that are sleep deprived, work long hours, and need to re-charge. Floating naturally lowers stress hormones and releases endorphins, which can last for days. It also has amazing beauty benefits such as detoxification, muscle tension relief, and gives the skin a nice afterglow.

Anyone can benefit from floating. Those who love yoga and meditation can reach new levels of spirituality. CEO's and Wall Street executives can unplug from technology. Athletes and NYC marathoners can relieve muscle tension. Artists and actors can find new creative inspiration.

ADDITIONAL BENEFITS:

  • Improved Sleep

  • Lowered Stress, Anxiety, and Symptoms of PTSD

  • Lowered Chronic Fatigue

  • Lowered Inflammation and Pain

  • Faster Muscle Recovery

  • Increased Creativity and Meditative State

  • Lowered Fibromyalgia Symptoms

WHAT TO EXPECT

The practice involves entering into a sensory deprivation tank where the body experiences zero gravity by becoming buoyant in 10 inches of clean, filtered, therapeutic Epsom salt water that is the same temperature as your body. As you lay in the water, your body floats effortlessly. You have the option to have all light and sound slowly fade away. By focusing on your breath (or nothing at all), the brain will naturally drift into a dream-like theta state. With 60 or 90 minutes of zero gravity, your body can relax, decompress, and re-align. The filtered water in our tanks is environmentally friendly and free of chlorine and chloramines. We only use pharmaceutical-grade Epsom salt and meet the strictest health and safety codes in the United States.

Each session is customized according to your needs:

“When I entered the larger of the floats, my mind started to ease as I gazed up at the starry night lights.. It was amazing how my body kept afloat and had a sense of calm throughout the entire time, which did not feel like 75 min (I could have stayed in longer).”

FLOATING DURING PREGNANCY

  • Floatation is a zero-gravity experience, which will take away pressure from the joints and spine. Where else can you take all that strain and pressure away from your body?

  • Epsom salt water contains Magnesium, which helps the body feel softer and at ease. The Epsom salt solution in the tank helps decrease inflammation in the pregnant body due to magnesium absorption.

  • Being in the float tank will help you connect with yourself & your baby. Many say it feels like a womb within a womb!

  • We have special props that can be used to support you during the session if needed (they are demonstrated in the video).

  • Floating is great during the first, second, or third trimester of pregnancy. We still highly recommend you consult with your physician.

In 1954 American neurophysiologist, Dr. John C. Lily developed the first isolation tank that restricted environmental stimuli and suspended the body in water. Today floatation tanks are used for their health and beauty benefits.

COVID SAFETY

Om.life Wellness Spa is working hard every day to keep you as safe as possible during this time. While our facility was initially built to provide the cleanest space possible, we've implemented additional safety steps in our sanitation procedures. Below are a few pieces of information as Floatation Therapy relates to COVID-19, provided by scientific journals and field experts.

  • Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) is a natural antiseptic. High concentrations of magnesium sulfate have been known to stop bacteria and viruses from spreading in water solutions.

  • However, SARS-CoV-2 is not water-borne. The virus is spread through inhalation of airborne-droplets and physical contact with contaminated objects/people. For this reason, all surfaces in and outside of our float tanks/float rooms are disinfected every day and between every guest.

  • Dr. Roy Vore, a microbiologist and expert on water sanitation has contributed to the discussion of floatation therapy safety for some time. If you’d like to see more information on Dr. Vore’s industry comments and suggestions, check out the links below:
